What is the FUS?
Follow-up Stories is a non-commercial collective of journalists, researchers and independent writers. As the name suggests, the basic idea behind this platform is to follow those stories that have been out of memory for some time in the fast-paced news business.
Be it politics, culture, business or environment, we try to dwell deep into the issue and fill in the missing dots, thus establishing the chain of events and re-enforcing the relevance of the story.
Who runs the FUS?
Follow-up Stories is run under a co-operative arrangement formed among some like-minded individuals associated with media and academia. The execution of editorial responsibilities is borne by senior jounalist Abhishek Srivastava who has worked in the print media for over two decades and authored three books, apart from translating a dozen of academic works.
Idea behind FUS
It’s been a few years that we have been witnessing a psycho-social phenomenon of collective memory loss. Facts and fact-checks are being floated without the larger context. The immediacy of news and the urgency of human reaction have created a vicious cycle that helps delineate the present from the past and the past from the future.
In this scenario, the past could easily be distorted and re-created by the powers that may be. This re-created past may then be projected in the future. The whole sense of historicity is thus distorted and a sort of collective amnesia is manufactured in society that helps those who want to control the people i.e. readers and viewers or say, news consumers. This desire and mechanism to control people is rampant throughout democracies today and has given a pass to totalitarian regimes.
Here storytelling comes into the picture- stories that can situate our present in the historical perspective and chart a course for the future by seeking lessons from the past. FUS is doing exactly the same for over three years.
Who funds FUS?
Follow-up Stories is entirely non-funded and non-commercial. It is supported by individual contributions. This is why we only pay for the stories commissioned at our end. Rest of the content is purely desk-generated, translated and syndicated in collaboration with some non-commercial international platforms like the Project Syndicate and Progressive International.
